The 3rd Infantry includes four brigade combat teams, an aviation brigade, and other support units. The immense size of Fort Stewart, which takes up nearly 280,000 acres, provides a significant training ground for the 3rd Infantry. Following WWII, the post was deactivated for about 5 years until the outbreak of the Korean War. The post maintained the role of training AAA personnel.
