USAG Mannheim: Overview

Within the Mannheim community, the Army military units are under the major command of the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) and its main mission is Signal, Transportation and Military Police support.

The present mission of USAG Mannheim is to exist as the sole point of contact for Americans and to supply base operation support for resident units in the allotted geographical region which extends approximately 938 square miles and comprising of some twenty installations including Sullivan Barracks, Taylor Barracks, Spinnelli Barracks, Coleman Barracks and Funari Barracks. 

USAG Mannheim is characteristic to the American occupation forces right after World War II.

USAG Mannheim is located in southwest Germany about sixty miles south of Frankfurt and fifteen miles northwest of Heidelberg.  Other communities in the area include Ludwigshafen, Germany, Friesenheim, Germany, Limburgerhof, Germany, Mutterstadt, Germany, Frankenthal, Germany, Viernheim, Germany, Heddesheim, Germany, Ladenburg, Germany, Edingen-Neckarhausen, Germany, Bruhl, Germany, Lampertheim, Germany, Schifferstadt, Germany, Bobenheim-Roxheim, Germany, Plankstadt, Germany, Ketsch, Germany and the heart of each of these cities is approximately nine miles from Manheim, Germany.

USAG Mannheim: Interesting Facts

  • Euro Disney, the Black Forest and countries similar to France and Austria are all situated close to USAG Mannheim.
  • Winters are chilly with moderate snow and the summers are quite warm with lower humidity, resembling that of the northeastern states such as Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
  • Mannheim is recognized as the city of quadrangles because Prince-Elector Friedrich IV of Palatinate designed this fortified municipality with streets at right angles in March of 1606.
  • Mannheim has a German translation of "A place where men are at home" and is also referred to as the city of blocks.
