Blue Star MomsBlue Star Moms is another organization that works solely towards providing service and support for the military. This organization is nonprofit, non-discriminatory, non-sectarian and non-political in nature and strives to offer help and service to veterans organizations, military personnel and their families who have served for the United States, members who have served in the armed forces and their families and other causes that offer benefits to the soldiers. Blue Star Moms does not represent any political party or endorse any candidate at any governmental level. Being completely service oriented, this organization does not encourage any political entity using their name to further their interests. Blue Star Moms was conceptualized as a direct reaction to the 9/11 attack on America. Nancy Ecker, Peggy Conklin and Patty Martin from San Ramon, CA joined hands to offer mutual support and strength. Between them, they had four sons serving in the US Army. The boys were aged between 19 and 22. They could not find any support network in California and reached out to their communities on that fateful day. The first Blue Star Moms meeting was organized at the Danville, CA located Veteran’s Memorial Building in November 2001. This meeting was attended by 30 moms. Today, this organization has grown in stature and numbers with over 150 moms as members. The organization was also officially chaptered with the national organization The Blue Star Mothers of America Inc. This group has been offering strong support and assistance to moms whose daughters and sons serve in the military. They conduct frequent casual meetings where moms share their knowledge on the military and their experiences. They also share information on their kids serving at the military and offer valuable information for moms whose kids are deployed overseas or even those whose kids are attending the boot camp. Periodically, Blue Star Moms invite guest speakers to address any concerns and issues faced by members. The organization has, since its initiation, been spreading empathy, knowledge and friendship.
