Troops To Teachers - Georgia: Overview

A growing trend has been common across the country; there is a growing shortage of qualified teachers. One way to fill that void in the State of Georgia is to pursue individuals that have highly desirable qualities in terms of developing young people. That is why a great program exists to attract military members to the teaching pool. That program is the Troops To Teachers program in Georgia. Military members bring a number of assets to the classroom that has been ingrained in them through a career of dedicated service to our nation. In fact, Alderman (2006) explained that, “School officials cite maturity and effective discipline techniques as unique skills that veterans bring to the job.” (p. A4). This program is sure to attract more of our veterans to the classroom, which is sure to have a positive impact on educating our youth.
