Military - Walden University: Overview

Established in 1970 by teacher from NY, Bernie and Rita Turner, Walden University has always focused on providing a high quality education to working adults - a perfect setup for our men and women in the Armed Forces. The original mission of the school was limited to providing a program so that working adults could earn doctoral degrees, but the program availability has expanded to include bachelor’s programs, master’s programs, and even certification programs.

Since Walden University was originally established to cater to the needs of working adults, it fully understands the challenges that face our military members in terms of finding time to earn a degree. That is why Walden has become such a respected institution in the military community. In fact, G.I. Jobs added Walden to its 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools. This list recognizes the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that have best served our nation’s military members and veterans. It is not hard to understand why Walden University was included on this list. Walden has developed a team of VA-trained certifying officials that is specifically focused on serving military members, veterans, and dependents.

The dedication that Walden University has to our military members and veterans is also apparent through the benefits that have been made available to these courageous individuals who are serving or who have served our country. Walden honors just about every military educational benefit available, and it offers a 10 percent tuition reduction to both active duty military members and military veterans alike. Since it is a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium, Walden makes it easy for military members and veterans to consolidate credits and transfer them from other educational institutions.
